Speed cameras near schools to launch in Fairfield

Cameras that monitor speeders around the clock will go live in school zones this week.

New automated speed cameras are being launched in several school zones in Fairfield.

The cameras will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When school is in session, there will be a 20 mile per hour speed limit enforcement.

When school is not in session, the speed limit will be 25 miles per hour.

The cameras will operate at the following schools:

  • Dwight Elementary on Redding Road

  • Notre Dame High School on Jefferson Street

  • Burr Elementary on Burr Street

  • Riverfield Elementary on Mill Plain Road

  • Fairfield Ludlowe High School on Unquowa Road

  • Fairfield Warde High School on Melville Avenue

The first fine will be $50, then $75 for each additional violation.

The School Zone Safety Program begins Friday.
