Former NYPD Chief of Department John M. Chell has announced his candidacy for 2029 in a video on his social media.
He says he is registered as an independent and has ideas “on both sides."
“Nothing to lose and everything to gain here” says Chell in his candidacy video.
Chief Chell was the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer when he was appointed by Commissioner Jessica Tisch back in December of 2024.
Chell retired from the force in October last year after about 30 years of service.
