A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a truck Wednesday morning in Dutchess County.

Police say the 57‑year‑old rider and the truck were both traveling south on Route 9 in Red Hook when the bicyclist attempted to cross both lanes, moving in front of the truck.

Authorities say the rider was hit and thrown from the bicycle. Police say the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury.

The truck driver was not injured.

Police say they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
