Forecast:

t’s a warm, breezy, and very dry day across the Lower Hudson Valley, with sunshine pushing temperatures well into the 80s. Gusty south winds combined with low humidity are creating an elevated fire risk. A red flag warning remains in effect for Ulster and Dutchess counties until Tuesday 7 p.m., so use extra caution with anything that could spark a flame.

Changes arrive Tuesday night as clouds increase ahead of the next system. This will set the stage for a cooler and wetter pattern through the middle of the week.

Wednesday brings a noticeable shift, with widespread rain developing and even the chance for a thunderstorm. Temperatures will be much cooler, reaching only the mid- to upper 60s — a sharp drop from Tuesday’s warmth. Rain continues Wednesday night before tapering off early Thursday morning.

Conditions begin to improve by Thursday afternoon, with partial clearing. Temperatures stay in the low to mid-60s, slightly below normal. Friday looks to be the "Pick of the Week," with mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures in the low to mid-60s.

The weekend turns more unsettled once again. Another frontal system may bring showers as early as Saturday morning, with additional rain chances returning Sunday evening after a brief warm-up into the upper 60s and low 70s. Yet another round of showers is possible Monday as a cold front moves through.

With multiple opportunities for rain, it’s a good idea to keep umbrellas and rain gear nearby. Mother’s Day plans may need to shift indoors at times, especially later Sunday.

Wednesday: Showers developing by late morning, with rain likely throughout the day and possible thunderstorms later. Temperatures in the mid- to upper 60s.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a chance of showers, especially in the morning. Temperatures in the low to mid-60s.

Friday: Sun and clouds and slightly cooler than usual. Temperatures in the low 60s.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a chance of showers. Temperatures in the low to mid-60s.

Sunday -- Mother's Day: Mostly sunny and milder. Temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Monday: Showers possible. Temperatures in the mid-60s.
