State officials have shut down a Middletown smoke shop after investigators say the business sold illegal cannabis products to a 16-year-old.
The New York State Office of Cannabis Management sealed The Green Threads on Dolson Avenue following what officials described as an undercover operation prompted by a complaint that marijuana had been sold to a minor.
According to the state, an undercover investigator later went into the shop, where an employee allegedly attempted to sell them unlicensed cannabis products.
Officials say investigators also found marijuana in flower form, edibles and cannabis concentrates inside the store during the inspection, with help from Middletown police. Authorities say the products were being sold outside of New York’s licensed cannabis market.
State warning notices now cover the shop’s windows and doors, notifying customers that the business has been sealed by order of the Cannabis Control Board.
One woman who lives nearby told News 12 she supports the enforcement action because she has grandchildren and would not want them going to the store.
The state has ordered the business to remain closed until May 2027.
Acting New York State Office of Cannabis Management Executive Director John Kagia wrote in a statement, “When unlicensed operators put young people at risk, we will act.”
