A Bronx man has been indicted for the 2025 murder of a 14-year-old boy who was waiting for the bus.

At around 10 a.m. on January 10, 2025 at Lincoln Avenue and 138th Street, Caleb Rijos was waiting for the bus to go to school.

Waldo Mejia allegedly approached the teen while he was looking away and stabbed him several times in the chest. Rijos ran and called his father on the phone for help before collapsing on the street. He died at NYC Health+Hospitals/Lincoln.

Just five days earlier, Mejia also stabbed a 38-year-old man inside a subway station near 138th Street and Alexander Avenue. The victim was in intensive care and had to undergo multiple surgeries.

Mejia was previously deemed mentally unfit to stand trial on March 20, 2025, but was later deemed restored to fitness on October 10, 2025.

His charges include murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
