Westchester honors community leaders for Caribbean American Heritage Month

The Westchester County Board of Legislators is recognizing two longtime community leaders as part of Caribbean American Heritage Month.
Judge Lyndon Williams and Rupert Bitter were presented with proclamations for their years of service and impact in the community.
Lyndon Williams, who was born in Georgetown, Guyana, immigrated to the United States as a teenager. He served on the Mount Vernon City Council and the Westchester County Board of Legislators before becoming a judge.
Rupert Bitter, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, moved to the U.S. at age 16. He volunteered for the U.S. Army and served in combat in Vietnam. After a career in the banking industry, he went on to mentor young athletes in the community.
Both shared advice for the younger generation.
"Show up, be involved. Don't be afraid to get involved. Their future really depends upon their involvement," said Williams.
"Dedication, determination, discipline, and desire. Those are the four keys to success in everything," said Bitter.
Williams and Bitter were joined by family and friends as they received their proclamations.
