Juneteenth celebrations continued in Westchester County’s largest city on Saturday, as a festival in Yonkers brought the community together in a powerful show of culture, unity and reflection.
The annual Juneteenth Community Festival at JFK Marina highlighted African American heritage through music, food and community engagement. The Yonkers African American Heritage Committee organized the event which has been a longstanding tradition focused on honoring history while inspiring future generations.
Community members say that while Juneteenth is now officially recognized across the country, its significance has long been understood within the Black community. The event serves as a reminder of shared history and the importance of passing down cultural knowledge to younger generations.
The family-friendly event featured live entertainment, food and moments of spiritual reflection which added another layer of meaning to the celebration.
