A memorial continues to grow in Dutchess County after a teen was killed in a police-involved shooting.
Crowds have come to the Wappingers Falls Creek Bridge to express their grief.
It all happened near East Main and Market streets. According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a call about a distressed person on the bridge around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators say the 17-year-old male allegedly turned and lunged at officers with a knife, leading police to open fire.
The teen was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not released the teen’s name, but News 12 spoke with former classmates, who identified him as Oscar Granados Colindres, who attended Roy C. Ketcham High School.
Colindres was remembered at Saturdays graduation ceremony.
The New York State Attorney General's Office is leading the investigation into the incident, as required in cases that involved the death of a person during an encounter with law enforcement.
