Route 117 in Chappaqua will be closed between Green Lane and Overlook Drive until Sept. 4 for a culvert replacement project.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the project is designed to improve drainage infrastructure and ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the roadway.
The road will be closed until the work is completed.
Residents who frequent the area had mixed reactions to the announcement.
"It certainly is a hub for working families, working moms, to get groceries for their kids. It's definitely an inconvenience. I think going forward, hopefully they'll be able to get that built and fixed soon," said Pleasantville resident Pholida Barclay, who uses the Whole Foods in Chappaqua.
"There's never a right time for construction. If this is going to better the community and alleviate problems for homes down the road, there's never a right time," said Armonk resident Gjoko Perpepkaj.
A state‑approved detour for Route 117 will route commercial traffic via King Street, Route 22 and Armonk Road.
For non‑commercial vehicles, the town of New Castle recommends using King Street, the Saw Mill River Parkway and Roaring Brook Road.
