The annual Mount Kisco Fire Department Parade brought residents and visitors to the village streets Friday to celebrate the department's long history of service and dedication.
Community members lined the parade route to cheer on firefighters, apparatus and department members as they made their way through the village. The event highlighted the department's role in the community and gave residents a chance to see the equipment and manpower that volunteer firefighters provide.
According to First Assistant Chief Ray Zaccari, the department responds to about 800 fire calls each year and is staffed entirely by volunteers.
"Pretty busy for a bunch of volunteers, but they're putting their best efforts forward and they're doing a real fine job," said Zaccari.
He said the parade serves as an opportunity for residents to see what the department has to offer.
Longtime parade attendees said the event remains a tradition they look forward to each year, while community members expressed appreciation for the volunteers who dedicate their time to protecting the village.
The annual parade serves as a celebration of both the firefighters' commitment and the community's support for the department's volunteer service.
