Westchester County health officials are warning residents about a stomach illness linked to a parasitic infection after dozens of cases were reported this year.
The Westchester Health Department says there have been 28 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in the county so far this year.
Cyclosporiasis is caused by a parasite that is often linked to contaminated food.
Health officials say common symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and other gastrointestinal issues.
Residents are being urged to take precautions when preparing food.
Officials recommend thoroughly washing fresh fruits and vegetables before eating them.
They also advise anyone experiencing symptoms of a gastrointestinal illness to contact a healthcare provider.
Cases have also been reported in neighboring counties.
Health officials say there have been three cases in Rockland County this year and three confirmed cases in Putnam County, with a fourth case under investigation.
