A 2-year-old was seriously injured after a near-drowning Friday afternoon at a home on Mountain View Terrace in the Town of Montgomery.

New York State Police said troopers from the Montgomery barracks responded to the home around 2:43 p.m. for a report of a drowning involving the toddler.

The child was taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital with serious injuries. State Police said the investigation is ongoing.

According to a source familiar with the emergency response, the initial dispatch reported the child was in cardiac arrest.

Neighbors described a large emergency response and told News 12 they saw first responders rush the child to an ambulance.

The incident marks the fifth confirmed report of a child near-drowning in Orange County in recent weeks, following several other incidents that have prompted renewed reminders from first responders about the importance of constant adult supervision around water.

No additional information about the child’s condition has been released.
