A family-owned New Rochelle restaurant is dealing with a major financial loss after thieves broke in and stole thousands of dollars.
The burglary happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday at Modern Restaurant & Lounge on Huguenot Street.
Security video shows two suspects breaking through the restaurant's front doors. The thieves appear to use a hammer before kicking in part of the entrance to gain access.
The restaurant's general manager says the suspects went directly to the office where a safe was kept.
"It's unsettling knowing that they knew exactly where to go and exactly what to do," says general manager Sebastian Aliberti, whose family started the restaurant.
According to the owners, the thieves broke into the safe and made off with more than $30,000.
"You feel violated. Your bubble that you're supposed to feel protected in and comfortable gets taken away from you," Aliberti tells News 12.
Aliberti says the burglary happened in just six minutes.
New Rochelle police say the case remains under active investigation.
This is the second recent burglary at a family-owned business in Westchester County.
News 12 previously reported last week about La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market in Yonkers also getting hit.
