Yonkers movement aims to 'stop the violence'

A Yonkers man is on a mission to stop violence in the city.
"It's about Yonkers coming together for these youth," says Dwayne Cloud, with WWR Inc., an affiliate of the K.A.P. Afterschool Program.
Cloud says this movement is focused on prevention, mentorship, education and community unity.
"We've been doing programs in Yonkers for over 20 years, mentoring youth, hiring teenagers and just overall working with the community," Cloud tells News 12.
On top of pursuing this mission, he works as a detention officer.
Cloud says reducing violence takes partnerships between the community as a whole.
That mission is especially resonating right now after what unfolded earlier this week in Yonkers. Five people were shot Sunday night. One man died and four teenagers were hurt.
"Hopefully the community can change. Get together, work together to prevent these types of things," says a man who works in the area.
That part of working together is where Cloud's movement comes in. He was already planning for an event on Aug. 29 on Tuckahoe Road called the "Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament and Community Awards Ceremony."
