A Dutchess County man is back in custody after police say he fled the United States to avoid prosecution on a sex abuse charge.

Authorities said 50-year-old Jose Tacuri, of Wappingers Falls, posted bail and left the country in 2007 while facing a sex abuse charge.

Police said Tacuri remained outside the United States for years before recently returning.

According to investigators, Tacuri was arrested Thursday after being stopped for speeding in the Town of Red Hook.

Police said the traffic stop led officers to discover he was wanted.

Tacuri is now in custody.
