The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey say 6.6 million travelers are expected to catch flights or get on the road for the Labor Day holiday weekend, as families look to squeeze in one final travel before the summer ends.
The Port Authority says airports like John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International Airport could see over 2.4 million passengers.
They advise people flying domestically to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight and for international passengers at least three hours before their departure time.
Travelers at LaGuardia Airport on Friday shared with News 12 their own tips to stay on time and avoid any delays.
“We got here two hours early. I booked an Uber two days earlier just to make sure that we get here on time,” said Anna, as she waited for her flight to Chicago.
For travelers getting behind the wheel, AAA says the average gas price in New York City is 37 cents cheaper than last year, currently at $3.17
While the average gas price in New York State is higher at $4.29 and Connecticut is not too far behind at an average of $4.28 at the pump.
