There's now a special dedication in Westchester County for the late U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey.
A community green space was dedicated at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla for her on Wednesday.
Lowey was the first woman to chair the House Appropriations Committee. She served the Hudson Valley for more than 30 years.
Lowey passed away at the age of 87 in March of 2025 at her home in Harrison.
Her impact is felt greatly - a fact that was on full display during the dedication, including words from former President Bill Clinton.
"People need to know that she had a rare talent. She got an extraordinary amount done and she was good at being a member of Congress," said Clinton.
Other friends, colleagues and people who were mentored by Lowey also spoke.
"It didn't matter where you came from, what your politics were, whether you agreed with her, Nita listened," said state Sen. Shelley Mayer.
Those close to Lowey say she was a big advocate on a range of important issues, from health care and the environment to public broadcasting.
“Her impact can be seen and felt throughout Westchester County, not only in the investments and initiatives she championed, but in the example she set as a leader of integrity, compassion and determination. It is fitting that this beautiful public space at Kensico Dam Plaza now carries her name and will serve as a lasting reminder of an extraordinary public servant and an extraordinary Westchester resident," said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins.
