The Clarkstown Town Board has approved a six-month moratorium on certain new development projects while officials review traffic, infrastructure and land-use planning.
The pause applies to multifamily housing projects, large-scale subdivisions and some commercial and industrial developments, including AI data centers.
Town officials said the goal is to address potential impacts on traffic, the environment and public safety.
The moratorium follows recent policy changes, including the Clarkstown Community Preservation Act.
Small-scale subdivisions, individual residential projects and commercial or industrial projects under 5,000 square feet are exempt.
Projects within the Nanuet Hamlet Center are also exempt.
"It's an opportunity to refine our vision for responsible growth while preserving open space, protecting our environment, and ensuring that our infrastructure and community services can support the development that takes place in Clarkstown," Town Supervisor George Hoehmann said.
