Construction worker saved after being pinned beneath tons of debris on Bridgeport Harbor

A construction worker survived a dramatic, hours-long entrapment at the former Harbor Station Power Plant demolition site in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport police and firefighters responded to 1 Atlantic St. for reports of a person trapped in the excavator.

Just before 11 a.m., a massive piece of debris fell during demolition work near the landmark "candy-cane" smokestack, pinning the worker inside an excavator cab.

Emergency crews successfully extricated the worker, who was transported to a local hospital alert and conscious.
