Transformer explosion sparks basement fire as family and pets escape Ho-Ho-Kus home

Three adults and several animals are displaced after an early morning fire on Crescent Place in Ho-Ho-Kus.
According to Ho-Ho-Kus Police Capt. Greg McBain, the residents escaped on their own and were able to get their pets out as well.
McBain says a transformer blew across the street from the home but, in the process, started the fire in the basement of only this house.
He says they'll work with PSE&G to try to determine if the transformer failing was storm-related.
