The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is calling for the end of New York’s sanctuary laws.
This comes after the shooting of Oscar Belgal in the Bronx (link prev. Coverage) that sparked outrage from advocates.
In a statement, DHS says that the state’s sanctuary laws allow undocumented immigrants who committed crimes back onto the streets.
The agency pointed towards several crimes they say were caused by these undocumented immigrants.
News 12 has reached out to Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul for a comment.
