College students at SUNY Purchase walked out Tuesday, joining a nationwide movement calling for new restrictions and guardrails around artificial intelligence.
The protest, organized nationally by a group called "Irreplaceable," drew dozens of SUNY Purchase students from different majors. Organizers are calling for an “AI freeze.”
Among the students was senior Ryan Dolinsky, who studies math, computer science and social sciences. As he gets ready to graduate, Dolinsky said he is concerned about AI replacing coding and other entry-level jobs that students could otherwise pursue after college.
Other walkouts took place across New York City, including at Fordham University.
