A Yonkers man was taken into custody after police say he confronted officers with a large hatchet during a tense encounter inside a home.
Police say officers from the Emergency Service Unit and the 2nd Precinct responded to a residence on Oct. 13 after family members requested help for a relative who was behaving erratically and holding a cutting tool.
According to police, officers entered the home and were met by a man armed with a large hatchet who was shouting aggressively and refusing repeated commands to drop the weapon.
Authorities say officers deployed a TASER, causing the man to drop the hatchet and allowing them to take him into custody without using deadly force.
The man was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. Police did not release his name or any potential charges.
