New witness video obtained by News 12 shows the chaotic aftermath of a police chase in Haverstraw on Friday that left three officers injured.
The video shows a heavy police response along Route 9W during the evening commute, with flashing lights, sirens and a crashed vehicle. Officers can also be seen surrounding a suspect on the ground. Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould Jr. confirmed the video captures the suspect being taken into custody at the end of the pursuit.
Police say the incident began around 4:41 p.m. on Oct. 23, when officers responded to a report of a man attempting to break into a home in the village. Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided and ordered the driver to get out.
Instead, police say 24-year-old Isaac Catedral, of Haverstraw, accelerated toward an officer on West Lincoln Street, striking and running over him before taking off.
Authorities say Catedral led police south on Route 9W into Clarkstown before heading back toward Haverstraw, where he crashed into an occupied police vehicle and was arrested. Three Haverstraw officers were taken to area hospitals.
Gould tells News 12 the officer who was run over suffered a severe knee injury and remains out of work. The other two officers sustained less serious injuries and are doing well.
Catedral faces multiple charges, including aggravated attempted murder, assault, criminal mischief and drug and weapons possession.
He was arraigned Saturday in Haverstraw Village Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail.
