The Norwalk High School Marching Band and Guard is headed to nationals at MetLife Stadium Saturday, and all of their equipment will be riding in style.
The program cut the ribbon on its brand-new equipment trailer Friday night at Andrews Field.
City and school officials were on hand for the occasion, as well as dozens of marching band and guard team members and their parents.
Band director Chris Rivera says it's been a decade in the making.
"It means a lot. It means we don't have to rely so much on getting four parents each week to drive the four box trucks that we have to rent," Rivera says. "It's going to save us money... It's a great thing for the program."
Sophomore Justin Mora-Jimenez agrees.
"When we roll in," Mora-Jimenez says, "everybody's going to be looking at us like, 'Oh, wow. That's a cool band,' and of course we are!"
The trailer has been carrying the band's instruments, uniforms and equipment for most of the season.
Norwalk recently won its fourth consecutive USBands Connecticut State Championship in Group V Open Class.
