There's a new face looking to represent parts of Rockland County in this year's local elections.
David Bruen announced his candidacy for the county's 11th legislative district.
The 21-year-old from West Nyack will run as a Democrat.
He's currently finishing his senior year at Syracuse University, studying for a degree in political science. He previously interned for state Sen. David Carlucci and Rep. Nita Lowey while in high school.
Bruen says he would like to focus on water quality, sustainability regarding the environment and housing, as well as affordability.
News 12 was the first to speak with him.
"And if elected, the whole point will be to represent the people," he said. "Try and understand what their life is like. And see how we can make the conditions for them, in District 11 and across the county, that much better."
The district's current representative, Independent Laurie Santulli, will not be seeking re-election.
She tells News 12 she wishes Bruen, and anyone else running to fill her seat, the best of luck.
