A second-degree murder indictment has been handed down to Edward Holley in the 2003 death of Megan McDonald.
The announcement was made by the special prosecutor, who took over the case after the Orange County DA recused himself.
The body of Megan McDonald, 20, was found in a field in the town of Wallkill. She had broken off a relationship with Holley just before she was killed.
Holley was arrested in April but later released after the DA stated his office could not secure an indictment within a specific time frame. A special prosecutor was appointed, and the case will be heard by a grand jury.
An arraignment for Holley will be held this Friday morning.
