A Hudson Valley family remembered their beloved little girl on Saturday night, three years after her death at the hands of her own mother.
The 3rd annual Gabriella Boyd Foundation Gala took place in New Rochelle.
The family says the event helps to raise awareness about parental custody battles and the need to keep closer tabs on children living in potentially abusive homes.
"We created the Gabriella Boyd Memorial Foundation to be able to help educate people to give a voice to those who don't have one, to give a voice to the children who are in Gabriella's feet and parents who are going through the same thing we're going through," said Rosa Montilla, Boyd's stepmother.
Boyd's mother, Mamaroneck resident Cynthia Arce, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of the toddler in 2018.
The child's father has blamed the inaction of police officers and Child Protective Services for not adequately protecting Boyd in the midst of her parents' custody fight.
