Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man on Route 9A in Elmsford ? the third such accident this year.
Detectives are asking for the public's help to catch the person who hit a pedestrian in his 30s as he crossed near North Payne Street around 10 p.m. Friday. The victim has not been identified.
In January, John Janusik was charged with fatally hitting a jogger, Harminder Singh. In March, Manuel Saca was found dead on Route 9A. No arrest was made in that case.
The latest crash on the same roadway has residents and town officials calling for change. "The traffic has to be slowed down," says Walter James Jr., of Elmsford, who walks to work every day. "You are standing here now and people are flying by. The signs are 30 mph."In addition to reducing speeding, Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner believes adding sidewalks would help.
Anyone with information about Friday's crash is asked to call police at 914-682-5325.
