City of Newburgh officials confirmed with News 12 that a shooting took place in the area of Prospect and South streets on Monday.
Little details about the incident are known at this time, but News 12 crews captured video of the scene that shows at least four emergency response vehicles at the scene.
Police tape was up at the time the video was shot. It has since been removed and Prospect Street appears to be open again.
People in the area said a vehicle was involved in the investigation in some capacity.
They mentioned that they observed several people being arrested.
Resident Varvara Mikushkina said that area of the neighborhood is notorious.
"We do get a lot of accidents on that corner, so I assumed it was a part of that, but then to see the police and just how intense everything was...I'm still processing it," Mikushkina said.
Other neighbors in the area said they saw the police investigation unfold.
They sent News 12 pictures that were taken when it was light outside and said a car was involved in the investigation in some capacity. They also told said that they saw several people getting arrested.
While we work to confirm those details, our crews noticed officers returned to the scene Monday night to continue their investigation which included a K-9 finding an object that appeared to be shell casing.
This part of the investigation took place just blocks away from Newburgh Free Academy's Main Campus where a shots fired incident happened less than two weeks ago.
"I moved up from Queens, got a little home here, got out of the apartments and here we go - there's a shooting across the street," one resident said.
