A cab driver has been arrested in connection to the apparent hit-and-run death of a 6-year-old girl in Morrisania, even though he stayed at the scene and took the victim to the hospital.
Witnesses say Mimah Bangoura was struck on E. 166th Street and Sherman Avenue Monday night as she was playing with friends in an open fire hydrant. According to witnesses, the girl was struck by a minivan and dragged several feet. At that point, witnesses claim the minivan sped off.
After the girl was struck for the first time, witnesses say she was hit again, this time by the cab driver. The cabbie stopped and rushed the girl to the hospital, where she later died.
Although the cab driver stayed at the scene, he was arrested for driving his vehicle without a license. Police aren't whether it was the cab driver or the minivan described by witnesses that actually struck the girl first.
