A total of 616 graduates from 49 countries graduated from this year's police academy and are set to join New York's Finest.
The added members to the police force come after the city saw 20 shootings over the weekend, four of which were fatal. Most of the graduating class will be sent to high crime areas as part of Operation IMPACT. The Bronx's 47th Precinct, which includes Woodlawn, Wakefield, and Edenwald, will be taking on some recruits from the class of 2014.
Before, there was only one supervisor for 12 new officers. Now, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton says it will be one supervisor for three new officers. There will also be more of a focus on working with the community to lower crime.
The graduation ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden.
