Families of 9/11 victims and first responders are pushing for passage of the American Victims of Terror Compensation Act.

The bill aims to fix the U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund, which provides payouts to those who lost loved ones to terrorism.

Lawmakers say the fund lacks oversight, leading to missed payments.

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-17th District) emphasized the ongoing impact of 9/11, saying, "We are still losing first responders, construction workers, sanitation workers who were down on the pile at ground zero to 9/11-related illnesses."

The bill is currently in committee review.
