(AP) - Kirsten Gillibrand, a42-year-old second-term congresswoman from the Hudson Valley, isGov. David Paterson's choice to fill New York state's vacant U.S.Senate seat. That's what an aide to the governor tells The Associated Press.The aide spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because anannouncement hadn't been made. Paterson has scheduled a news conference at noon today in Albanyto make the official announcement. Gillibrand's selection to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton comes aday after Caroline Kennedy abruptly withdrew from consideration. Gillibrand's office didn't immediately respond to a call seekingcomment. The Democrat from Columbia County will serve as senator until2010, when a special election will be held to fill the final twoyears of Clinton's term.
