A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked at about 22,000 patients and found people who are immunocompromised represented more than 12% of the people are hospitalized.
Dr. Harish Moorjani, an infectious disease specialist, says it's alarming because only 3% of the U.S. population is immunocompromised.
Moorjani says the fact that the majority of patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 are not immunocompromised may have something to do with whether they're vaccinated or have taken any precautions.
Moorjani says his advice to everyone whether they are immunocompromised or not is to get a booster especially with the highly contagious Omicron subvariants spreading around the country right now. He says people should also get an Omicron specific booster shot in the fall if or when one is approved.
