Alert Warwick police chief spots hit-and-run suspect
A driver wanted in connection with a hit-and-run accident in New Jersey was arrested in Warwick Tuesday thanks to an alert police chief.
Warwick Police Chief Thomas McGovern was at his daughter's school bus stop when he said he noticed the banged-up vehicle. "This car just came screeching around the corner of Ball Road onto Brady with no front end at all and parts dragging on the road," McGovern said. He then followed the car, pulled over the driver and called for backup.
McGovern said 44-year-old Kenneth Quinn, of Sterling Forest, smelled of alcohol. He was charged with driving while intoxicated after police say he was found to have a blood alcohol level of .20, more than two times the legal limit.
Quinn also faces charges in West Milford, New Jersey, where police say he rear-ended a dump truck hours earlier. Authorities say Quinn simply picked up the parts of his vehicle, put them in his backseat and fled the scene.
Quinn posted bail and was released to his sister's custody. He is due back in Warwick court June 5. Quinn faces additional charges in West Milford.
Warwick police confirm he has two DWI incidents on record from two years ago.
