? All Hallows baseball team played St. John?s Prep Wednesday in its quest to secure a spot in the Catholic League B Division finals for a third straight year.
The Gaels started strong with runners on second and third base. Victor Polanco ripped one to centerfield, allowing Noel Arecio to come in and score. All Hallows led 9-1 at the top of the fifth inning. Solid pitching helped the Gaels hang onto the lead. Leonardo Nieves went six innings, gave up one run with five hits and seven strikeouts. At the top of the seventh inning, the bases were loaded with All Hallows players. Juan Adorno hit the ball over the head of the second baseman, allowing the Gaels to clinch a 13-1 win.
All Hallows will face rival Stepinac in the championship game June 9. The team is trying to win its first city title since 1954.
