Parents and students in South Nyack were on high alert Thursday after receiving reports that a teenager was allegedly followed by two men in a van.
Police say a 13-year-old boy who was walking along South Broadway to his friend?s house Tuesday was trailed by a grey minivan for at least five blocks.
"As he looked back, the passenger got out of his seat in the front of the van [and] went to the back seat next to the sliding door," says South Nyack-Grand View Police Chief Robert Van Cura.
However, authorities say the men inside the van did not open the car door or attempt to grab the boy.
According to police, the mother of the teen?s friend saw the van following the boy, and when she tried to confront the two men, they drove off.
On Thursday, the Nyack Middle School principal sent a letter home with students, warning parents of the incident and encouraging them to talk to their children.
"I would tell my kids to be careful and pay attention, and of course we're going to be more aware," says parent Alfonso Ortizdevillate.
Anyone with information about the suspicious van is asked to call South Nyack-Grand View Police Department at 1-845-358-0206.
