Amtrak train strikes, kills Kingston woman and her dog

An investigation determined that 36-year-old Carrie Gemmell, of Kingston, was attempting to get her dog, which had gotten loose, when they were struck by a train heading south.

An Ulster County woman and her dog were killed when they were struck by an Amtrak train Sunday afternoon.
State police say it happened just north of the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge.
An investigation determined that 36-year-old Carrie Gemmell, of Kingston, was attempting to get her dog, which had gotten loose, when they were struck by a train heading south.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dutchess County Emergency Response team and the Mobile Crisis team assisted on the scene.
