School 21 in Yonkers may not open next year.

City officials say school board members will vote on a resolution Wednesday night that could close the elementary school.

The possibility is already creating quite a reaction from parents in the district.

"That is not a good thing...We have a big population of people who live out here. We rely on all the schools that's in the area," says parent Tricia Phillip-Boone.

If the school does close, officials say it would be due to enrollment.

The potential move doesn't surprise one retired Yonkers teacher.

"They've been doing this since I can remember. If the population has decreased, I can see them closing the schools," says the teacher.

Another parent says all of the uncertainty is already causing stress.

"I don't know what's going to happen," says the parent.

City officials say the board understands how disruptive this could be.

If the resolution is approved, they say the district plans to share more details about a possible transition as they become available.
