Fire officials are looking for an arsonist after a couple's Wallkill home caught fire Sunday for the second time in three months.
The blaze broke out around 9:30 p.m. at a vacant townhouse in The Meadows complex on Silo Lane. The home was vacant because the couple had been staying with relatives after flames first damaged their home in February.
The latest blaze came a day before reconstruction was to start at the townhouse.
"It definitely seems malicious at this point in time," said Mechanicstown Fire Chief Joseph Andre. "Or ? extremely suspicious. It's an unoccupied residence. There's no utilities, nothing."The people who live in an adjoining unit are also affected by the second fire. They were set to move back in within weeks. A contractor was making final touches on their apartment after the first blaze.
"You can't even talk to her right now because she's in such shock," said neighbor Susan Phillips. "She's four months pregnant. This has happened to her twice in her pregnancy."
