The New York attorney general is suing nursing home owners across the state that the attorney general says went without millions of Medicaid dollars.
Centers For Care LLC in the Bronx is accused of illegally misusing more than $83 million in Medicaid funding. The nursing homes under this LLC ownership include homes in Westchester County, Queens, and the Beth Abraham Center for Rehabilitation in the Bronx.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, some of the money may have been used by co-owners of the LLC to purchase property and a plane. The office says the allegedly misused money led to low staffing and severe patient neglect including dehydration, malnutrition and sometimes being left in their own feces and urine.
Family members of former Beth Abraham residents spoke out publicly today against the allegations toward the nursing home’s misconduct. Marlene Rodriguez’s daughter is a former resident of the Beth Abraham Center and was hospitalized with severe dehydration, pneumonia and more.
"Did not allow me to see her, I called police to do a wellness check,” said Rodriguez. "You make complaints, nobody listens. You yell and scream, that's when they finally listen."
While Beth Abraham did not have any abuse citations, it was cited for inefficient infection prevention and control, including staff failing to clean medical equipment or their hands properly.
News 12 reached out to Centers For Care LLC and received the following statement:
“Centers Health Care prides itself on its commitment to patient care.  Centers denies the New York Attorney General’s allegations wholeheartedly and attempted to resolve this matter out of court.  We will fight these spurious claims with the facts on our side."
