The home of a beloved author is up for sale in Mount Vernon.

The address of 101 Summit Ave. used to belong to E.B. White, author of American classics like "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little."

He may have written those books at the Mount Vernon address.

"This is the front door that E. B. White walked in through that door, and I kept it as original," said the home's owner, Jim Benjamin.

The three-story, 5,000-square-foot house was built in 1905. It has six bedrooms and 4 ½ bathrooms. The price of the home is $2.8 million.

While it was his childhood home, News 12 was told that he also lived there an adult.

"There is a room all the way on the third floor, which is like a very unusual round room. And I was told whenever he wanted to hide from the family, that's where he would go. And I restored that room to absolute original" said Benjamin.

The home took two years and more than $1 million to restore.

"The place was in a very poor condition, very poor. I decided no matter what it cost, to restore every bit according to the originality that it was."

It features high ceilings, original molding and wood throughout the house. No detail is too small.

"The radiators are the most beautiful radiators I've have seen in my whole lifetime," says Benjamin.

The original barn is also still outside.
