Authorities: Overnight standoff with armed man ends with arrest in Sloatsburg

The Town of Ramapo Police Department responded around 11:40 p.m. near Route 17 in Sloatsburg after a receiving a report about a “suicidal male in possession of a rifle and a shotgun.”

Law enforcement agencies in Rockland arrested an armed man this morning after an overnight standoff.
The Town of Ramapo Police Department responded around 11:40 p.m. near Route 17 in Sloatsburg after a receiving a report about a “suicidal male in possession of a rifle and a shotgun.”
Police were aided by Rockland County’s REACT Team and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department.
It was not immediately clear where the unnamed man barricaded himself, but he was taken into custody around 8:25 a.m.
Police say he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
A gas station employee near the scene says he heard what he thought were gunshots early this morning and saw officers enter a building wearing gas masks.
