A Westchester dad said a popular national chain of rest stops sent him a cease-and-desist letter over a logo they claim looks too much like theirs.

Aaron Ladds, of Dobbs Ferry, is an attorney who co-founded a group called Dad's Club.

"The way it works is that the second Thursday of every month, we meet at various different venues throughout Westchester County and gather as dads," Ladds said.

Ladds said his new club needed a logo, so he searched through different images of animals and settled on a character that he calls Pops McBeaver.

"I didn't even think about the beaver, but I flipped on him, and he made feel something," Ladds said.

Although Ladds was excited about his new logo, a popular travel center and gas station chain apparently was not.

"We received, on Aug. 29, a letter from Buc-ee's, a company I've never even heard of as a kid who grew up on 96th Street...arguing that they own the cartoon beaver," Ladds said.

The new dad said he was shocked that the letter asked him to completely stop using Pops McBeaver as a logo.

He shared why he contacted News 12 for help after having a friendly conversation with the Texas-based company.

"I reached out to News 12 in the effort to make peace with Buc-ee's and figure out a co-existence agreement with them," Ladds said.

Buc-ee's didn't respond to News 12's inquiries.

However, Ladds said he hopes the two parties can come to an agreement soon.

He said he would be completely devastated if his club had to get rid of their beloved beaver.

"I go to sleep with Pops McBeaver, I wake up with Pops McBeaver," Ladds said. "There's certainly a personal connection."
