The Bayonne Little League team returned home today to a hero’s welcome, with hundreds of people lining the streets to celebrate the boys’ run to the Little League World Series.

The team had been traveling since Aug. 7, when it left for the regional tournament. Its homecoming Tuesday marked the players’ first time back in Bayonne, and the community turned out in force to greet them.

The team’s bus received a police escort, fire truck and even motorcycle escort back into town, with residents lining the streets along the route. The players were greeted with applause from a large crowd gathered at the Little League field as they got off the bus.

Although Bayonne fell short in the Little League World Series, the team returned with plenty to celebrate: two wins in the World Series, a state championship and a ranking among the top six Little League teams in the country.

Players told News 12 the welcome home was something they won’t forget.

“It feels crazy. It’s just, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment. I just love it,” said player Conner Reed.

“So many memories. Even in Connecticut and at states, that was our first state title,” said player Jett.

Coach Gabe Garcia credited the team’s success to its work ethic throughout the season and a relentless determination.

“We stuck to our goal, and we were able to make it, practicing day in and day out. They all committed. That’s all I can say, they committed. They put the work in, and they got the results,” Garcia said.
