A synagogue in Beacon is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a special exhibit to honor the history of Jews in the community.
The Beacon Hebrew Alliance is showcasing various religious, personal, and industrial artifacts in its collection at the Beacon Historical Society on Leonard Street.
The exhibit honors the culture, history, contribution, and experience of Jews in Beacon for over a century.
"We have seven display cases, which are varied. Some Judaica objects, ritual objects that people use for celebrating holidays both at home and at the synagogue," says Diane Lapis, of the Beacon Historical Society. "We have some prayer books and bibles. We have a collection of some ephemera and artifacts from Jewish enterprises."
There's also a downtown walking tour of locations and businesses important in Beacon's Jewish history. The exhibit and tour are free.
