The Bear Mountain State Park has reopened and is gradually getting back to what it once was following last month's storm.
Park manager Jen Sylvestri says the main field as well as the picnic area and walkway around Hessian Lake is back open.
Some parking lots, the carousel, certain trails, the Bear Mountain Inn and the zoo are still closed.
Staff members suggest that it is best to check the park's page on the state website to find out the latest on what is open and closed.
Joshua Laird, the executive director of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, which operates Bear Mountain State Park and 21 others, says things are being reopened with safety in mind.
"It's very exciting for us to be back open," says Laird.
Laird says the park currently has a water tank for the public to drink from because the water the park has is being sterilized. He says the park hopes to get approval from the health department next week.
