One cheap and easy way to stay cool during this extreme heat is to
dips your toes in the waters of some of Westchester's pool and beaches.
Weeks ago, the county announced that fees for Glen
Island Beach in New Rochelle and Croton Point Park are waived during the week. There also won't be
fees at county pools at Saxon Woods in White Plains, and Sprain Ridge and
Tibbetts Brook parks in Yonkers.
The freebie only applies Monday through Thursday
until Sept. 1 and only applies to county residents.
Willson's Wave Pool in Mount Vernon remains closed, but the spray deck, aqua playground and slides will be open. Fees will be waived until further notice.
While the facility fees have been waived, you do
have to pay for parking.
The facilities open at 11 a.m. and close at 6
p.m.
"You know, we pay a lot of money in our taxes, so it's
nice to see that it goes towards something that we can take advantage of and be
able to appreciate some nice beaches that Westchester has to offer," says
Jessica Woodford, of White Plains.
News 12 meteorologists say the worst of this stretch
will be today and Thursday when heat advisories from the National Weather
Service will be in effect.
A heat wave becomes official once there are three
consecutive days of 90+ temperatures.
